This is a particular area of expertise for Dr Woodgate. She is invested in supporting parents to grow capacity to meet the emotional needs of their children. She sees parents of her young patients, but is also happy to see parents who have child/ren cared for by another child psychiatrist or a paediatrician. This separation is often very helpful in setting up successful parenting therapy, and Dr Woodgate is well placed to appreciate the dilemmas of parenting a complex young person even without meeting your child.
Dr Woodgate has expertise in psychotherapy with adults, children/adolescents and families. She considers referrals for individuals, dyads (parent and child), couples and families.
Dr Woodgate is trained in Circle of Security Parenting. She will update this page when a group is available for participants.
Dr Woodgate offers individual and group supervision for mental health professionals. She is an accredited supervisor for the RANZCP.
Dr Woodgate sees children from 0-16 and parents in the perinatal period for holistic mental health assessment. This generally involves 2-3 initial appointments, including a parent appointment if the referred person is a child. Following the initial appointments she will be able to discuss her impressions and recommendations. It is not unusual for Dr Woodgate to recommend a longer period of assessment and/or therapy, especially when the circumstances are complex.

She draws on a number of different therapeutic modalities, including Mentalisation Based Treatment, Parent Infant therapy, CBT and DBT. Her approach is family systems, attachment theory and trauma informed. She is an accredited Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) provider and is also trained in the Newborn Behavioural Observation System (NBOS).
Dr Woodgate offers reflective supervision for mental health clinicians of all disciplines. She sees individuals and groups. She is an accredited supervisor for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists for Basic and Child/Adolescent Advanced Trainees.
