FAQ - Appointments

Does Dr Woodgate take new patients?

Dr Woodgate has limited availability for new patients.  She does not keep a waitlist for reasons of  risk management.

Who does Dr Woodgate see?

Dr Woodgate is happy to receive referrals for perinatal adults (including pre-conception and in the context of infertility or pregnancy loss) and for children up to the age of 16.

She sees non perinatal adults for psychotherapy, particularly for parenting psychotherapy.

The referred person can be an adult/parent, couple, family or child.

Does Dr Woodgate see adults for assessment?

Dr Woodgate sees adults for assessment in the perinatal period.  She does not see general adult psychiatry referrals for assessment.  She does see adults for psychotherapy.

Does Dr Woodgate do neurodevelopmental assessment?

Dr Woodgate sees young people for holistic mental health assessment.  This may include consideration and/or treatment of neurodevelopmental diagnoses such as ASD or ADHD.  Her approach is deliberately broad to best appreciate the complexities of a young person's experience in the context of his or her family.

How to proceed?

If Dr Woodgate's expertise sounds to be good fit for your needs, you will need to access a referral from your GP (lasting 12 months) or your specialist (lasting 3 months).  Your doctor can send this via Medical Objects or you can send directly to us by email.  Once Dr Woodgate has been able to review the referral we will be in contact.

Any questions feel free to give us a call or reach out via the Contact page

Assessment process

Dr Woodgate sees new patients for a series of assessment appointments in the first instance.  This generally involves 2-3 appointments and includes a parent appointment if the referred person is a child.  Following the assessment appointments she will be able to share her initial formulation (the holistic picture of the concerns, including differential diagnosis) and recommendations.

Recommendations can include treatment with psychotherapy, psychotropic medication, attention to physical health concerns, and a broader holistic focus on wellbeing.  Psychotherapy recommendations often include suggestions regarding family and parenting support.  She may suggest a further period of assessment with her, or an alternative process of assessment with a different clinician (eg a psychologist), depending on the complexity of the presentation.
